Ten years and counting

Published by DDmom under Congrats Thankyou, Family, Milestone

10 years of marriage, 11.5 years of togetherness, 1 failed production, 2 successful productions. Pretty good. What say?

There has been many ups and downs in the journey so far. Still, at the end of 10 years, it makes the journey worth while.. wanting more of the same..

When the sight of each other at the end of a long day brings an instant smile on our faces..

When we both look at our happily sleeping kids and unconsciously hold hands to enjoy that moment..

When he steps into the elevator, I ask him how these 10 years have been, and he comes back to give us a hug..

When a day is all we can go without talking to each other..

When, even at this age, we can land our head on the other’s shoulder and break down like babies at any emotionally disturbing juncture..

In spite of the zillion differences between us, something somewhere must be going just right. Here’s to many many more years of togetherness. Happy 10th to US.

Appreciation

Published by DDmom under Congrats Thankyou, School, Tags

A week to appreciate teacher’s, a day to appreciate mother’s, a blog that says I am nice, another says I am lovable. Appreciate it.

But first, I got to tell dotThoughts, she is worth not $53,585 but a whopping $158,071.20. Yes, all of 6 figures. So says Dane Carlson. I know, I know, if you enter the blog url, it says the worth to be $19,758.90. Assuming one spends an average of one hour blogging a day. Knowing 8 hours make a full working day, It then equates to $158,071.20? So, DotThoughts, give yourself a pat and enjoy your birthday.
And three cheers all mommy blogger’s, next time someone says you are vetti or jobless, please do give them your blog url and ask them to pay a visit here.

[ Cent percent pun intended!! The API is solely based on linking[not who you link to, but who links to your blog], google indexing and how often you update your blog. So, the number it spits is not proportional to the famous quo. Some dude got bored over the weekend and wrote it, me thinks. ]

I had no clue this one week in a calendar year is dedicated to teacher’s appreciation, the week of May 4th – May 10th. Until I saw the monthly news letter from D’s school. We made a nice hand written card with this quote on it. teacher.jpg
Teachers are one of the most influential adults in one’s life. A good teacher is a blessing to have. So, heres a toast to all you teachers out there.

Mother’s day, hype or not I don’t know. But I know one thing for sure. I ain’t moving that day. The husband likes it or not, this one day, he is getting hot piping chai right to my bed. Taking care of kids and treating me to a luxurious lunch. While a bunch of us girls are going to watch a movie and buy some stuff for ourselves.

*****

On a more serious note, I stumbled upon Indira Nooyi’s article. Her appreciation for her father’s one piece of advice.

If you take away that anger and assume positive intent, you will be amazed. Your emotional quotient goes up because you are no longer almost random in your response. You don’t get defensive. You don’t scream. You are trying to understand and listen because at your basic core you are saying, “Maybe they are saying something to me that I’m not hearing.” So “assume positive intent” has been a huge piece of advice for me.

And since we are on the topic of appreciation, it’s very nice of ~nm to say I am nice. And I am flattered by Swati’s thought that I am a lovable person. Thank you both.

To follow the rule of passing it along, I am passing it to all who visit me regularly. You got to be nice, just for the gesture of taking a moment and acknowledging you were here. Much appreciated!

Lets take a minute and pray for all those who lost their lives and loved ones in Myanmar. And appreciate everything we have, day to day things like food, shelter and life that we take for granted.

!! Have a nice weekend !!

! For the record !

Just for the records, I wanted to write the long due post with a link to the Telegraph article where this blog got a mention. Took another look at the email I got from the author, Tessy Koshy, just to make sure I got her name right. I must admit when I got her email I thought it was a prank. I googled on her name to make sure she was indeed working for The Telegraph. Anyways, she had written in the email that she hit upon my blog while surfing on the net for mommy blogs, and thought it was interesting.
Out of curiosity on how she hit upon my blog, when there are so many others that deserve a mention, I googled on indian.. mommy.. blogger.. daycare.... to name a few, to see if mine showed up on the first 2 pages. Damn! Not even on the third. I wasn’t going to let it go. So, searched on the keyword ddmom, hoping to see my blog as the first entry in the result set. Sure, it was and it did momentarily satisfy my alter ego!
Wait, what is this 5th link? ddmom’s dating an alcoholic? How? When did that happen? Sorry ddmom, whoever you are, this is just to set my record straight, no offense to you!
Only to click few more links and end up transforming into a dog!

Get back to work, lady!

The Award Acceptance speech..

Published by DDmom under Congrats Thankyou

I am gratified to receive my first blog award bestowed upon me by Trishna, MNamma and Poppin’s mom.
!! T H A N K Y O U !!

They say I have the power of Schmooze. You bet I have !

This award is “for bloggers who “effortlessly weave their way in and out of the blogosphere, leaving friendly trails and smiles, happily making new friends along the way. They don’t limit their visits to only the rich and successful, but spend some time to say hello to new blogs as well. They are the ones who engage others in meaningful conversations, refusing to let it end at a mere hello – all the while fostering a sense of closeness and friendship.”

There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding the purpose of this award and if it suits one or the other. Every one is entitled to their opinion, thats why we are here, blogging to get a varied perspective on things.. To me, it doesn’t matter what it’s about. What’s matters is the spirit with which one starts the award chain and uses this as a means to acknowledge others who influence them one way or the other. If I am writing today, its only because of you all. I know my limitations. I don’t have a writing style, I am not good at expressing with the right set of words, phrase, punch lines. Yet I write. Because I am having fun and it has made me a better person today[Says the LH]. It started as a place to vent, but slowly it has become much more than that. It is more than just a platform to exchange ideas and tips on parenting. It feels as though I know most of you’ll personally. Thoughts stay through the day, even when I am not reading or writing…
What did Winkie wear for the kolu? the kurta or the sherwani… Hope Kodi had fun at school today… Wow! Madhu and Nandu went to the circus.. Moppet and family are vacationing.. hmm.. JLT has a new job, hope Sonny boy is doing ok with eating.. What Kiran’s brat is going to do next to make his mum proud.. aargee busy with relocation planning.. Parul’s son aadi hopefully sleeping better, hope she figured some colored noise.. haven’t visited CA’s blog after cantaloupe started day care.. haven’t visited Rash’s blog in a while.. Read COS is going through a bad patch, need to go back and read. Hope she sorts it out soon.. What happened to 4sha, 4 months no news.. left few comments on her blog, no response, hope all is well.. And the newest aquaintances, chintu, nikki and aryan… should read more about them..

If you feel like sleeping, its not your fault. Feel free to skip, but please read the last para before dozing off.

Boo’s is the very first blog I visited. I stumbled upon hers while searching for pregnancy delivery Bangalore. Read her post on Ashu’s birth experience and laughed my guy out. In real life, I know her through her sister. Ashu sounded familiar, but I couldn’t connect the dots. Left with a warm feeling, thinking how one could write so beautifully and effortlessly.

Then, one fine afternoon in February, I was having a phone conversation with a friend. A friend with whom I can talk for 2 hours without an agenda, without a reason, without a topic. That day we talked about D, work and blogs. In the midst of the conversation, she said she read about girls abuse in the blogs she follows. That, how elegantly some of the bloggers wrote about day to day happenings, some used it to vent, some used it as an online diary, some boldly talked about controversial topics. And then we made fun of each other, both of us being creatively challenged[Now you know why I did not link you here.. ]. We both are well connected and pretty successful in the professional world, but when it comes to expressing thoughts in writing, we aren’t there. How we could never blog. !!Never say Never, Ever!!
Just when I put the phone down, the LH asked So now you are going to blog? and laughed. Why not? I thought to myself. I am not writing a book or a journal, lets write whatever comes to mind.. Few days later I registered with no clue on what I was going to write… And here I am today writing comments at 4 in the morning..

Then came Noon, the first to leave a comment on my blog. I still remember, it was late in the night probably mid night when I got the first comment. In couple of days we had exchanged emails, knew each others due dates and kids names. So noon, you can come out of hiding..

Few days later, Poppin’s mom announced Dlittle’s birth in her blog. I was overwhelmed with her act and absolutely loved it. It opened doors to many many fellow bloggers, and I am hooked on ever since.

It’s not that I write for others, I would probably continue to write even if I did not have a single visitor, as this blog is slowly turning into a log about me, my kids and our journey together.
But in all honesty, if not for the comments and regular visitors, I would not have written more than a post a month.

This is the first award I have received and probably the last :) , so I had to take this opportunity to write all I wanted. If you managed to reach this far, YOU ARE AWARDED! You have the power to schmooze! If you have already been awarded, all the better. Let’s hear about your engagement story Or the mushiest moment ever[courtesy DotMom].

Thanks everyone for the wonderful wishes, thanks poppins amma for posting the news on your blog. That is really very sweet of you.
Have also sent pictures to many of you’ll whose email ids I have(H is against putting pics on the net. Being a hacker himself, he is too paranoid about google indexing them forever).
